“It is better for a person to increase gifts to the poor than to increase his own feast, and to send portions to his friends. There is no greater and more glorious joy than to gladden the hearts of the poor, orphans, widows, and strangers. One who brings joy to the hearts of the downtrodden is akin to the Divine Presence, as it is said: 'To revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the brokenhearted.'”
(Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Laws of Megillah, 2:17)
Gifts for the Poor on Purim Day 🎁,
Mishloach Manot and gifts for the poor for the families of Prisoners of Zion who are imprisoned for the people of Israel .✡️
The Rambam explains the importance of the Mitzvah of giving gifts to the poor and says that one should calculate the cost of the meal and the cost of sending Mishloach Manot, and give gifts to the poor in an amount that exceeds both of them:
"It is better to increase gifts to the poor than to increase one’s feast or sending portions to friends, for there is no greater or more glorious joy before the Holy One Blessed Be He than to make the hearts of the poor, orphans, widows, and strangers happy." ✨
